How to Choose a Marketing Agency in Madurai: 12 Questions to Ask Before You Sign
Twelve questions to put to any marketing agency before you sign, and what a good answer sounds like, from the first 90 days and reporting to who owns your ad accounts.
In short
- A good agency asks about your business before it recommends anything.
- Ask for a week-by-week plan for the first 90 days, and for the numbers they will report: customers and cost per customer, not just likes and reach.
- Your ad accounts, pages, website, domain and data should be in your name, with the agency added as a partner.
- Get the full cost in writing: fee, GST, ad spend, shoots, extra revisions, and how to end the contract.
- Be wary of guaranteed rankings or guaranteed sales. Google itself says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking.

Hiring a marketing agency is a bigger decision than it looks. You are handing someone your brand, your customers' first impression of you, and usually a monthly budget. Yet most businesses choose on three things: a portfolio, a price and a good feeling in the first meeting.
A better way is to ask the right questions and listen closely to the answers. The questions below work for any agency, large or small, in Madurai or anywhere else. For each one, we've written what a good answer sounds like, so you can tell the difference in the room.
A note before we start: Click Again is a marketing agency in Madurai, so we are not a neutral party. Ask us every one of these questions too. We would rather earn the work than win it on a pitch.
Before the first meeting: know what you want more of
An agency can only aim at a target you can name. Before you meet anyone, write down three things:
- What you want more of. Walk-ins, phone enquiries, online orders, appointments, repeat customers. Be specific: "more customers" is a wish, "30 more first-time patients a month" is a target.
- What a customer is worth to you. Roughly what you earn from a customer's first purchase, and over a year if they come back.
- What you can spend. On the agency's fee and, separately, on advertising, for at least three months.
Agencies that ask you for these numbers are the ones worth talking to further.
The 12 questions
1. "What do you need to know about my business before you suggest anything?"
A good answer comes as questions back to you: who your best customers are, what they buy, what your margins look like, why people choose you over the shop down the road, and what you have already tried.
Be careful if you're told what to buy before anyone has asked how your business works. A recommendation is only as good as the understanding behind it.
2. "What exactly will you do in the first 90 days?"
A good answer is a plan you could pin on a wall: what gets set up in the first two weeks (tracking, accounts, your Google Business Profile, a content plan), what launches next, and when the first review meeting happens.
Be careful if the answer stays vague: "we'll build your brand", "we'll increase your reach". You should be able to check each step off.
3. "Which numbers will you report to me, and how often?"
A good answer puts business numbers first: enquiries, customers won, cost per customer, and, if you have repeat business, how many came back. Reach, likes and impressions can appear, but as supporting detail.
Be careful if the report is built around followers and impressions alone. Those numbers can rise while your sales stand still.
4. "What can I afford to pay to win one customer?"
A good answer works it out with you, from your margin and what a customer is worth over time. That number decides how much advertising makes sense and when a campaign should be stopped.
Be careful if the agency quotes a "good" cost per lead or ROAS without knowing your margins. A number that is excellent for one business loses money for another.
5. "Who will actually do the work?"
A good answer names the people: who plans, who designs, who writes, who runs the ads, and who you speak to every week. It is honest about anything that is passed to a freelancer or partner.
Be careful if you only ever meet the person who sold you the service.
6. "Who will own my ad accounts, pages, website and data?"
A good answer is short: you will. Your Meta Business portfolio, ad account, Instagram and Facebook pages, Google Ads account, Google Business Profile, website, domain and customer data should all be in your business's name, with the agency added as a partner with the access it needs. On Meta this is done through partner access to your business assets, which you can remove at any time.
Be careful if accounts are created under the agency's name "to save time". If you part ways, you may lose your page history, your ad data and even your domain.
7. "How is ad spend paid, and can I see it?"
A good answer separates the agency's fee from the money spent on Meta or Google, and lets you see every rupee of ad spend, ideally because it is charged to your own card in your own ad account. You should receive proper GST invoices for the agency's fee.
Be careful if ad spend and fee are bundled into one number you cannot check.
8. "Can you create content in Tamil, not just translate it?"
A good answer shows Tamil work written for Tamil readers, whether in captions, ad scripts or voiceovers, and talks about when to use Tamil, English or both for your customers.
Be careful if Tamil is treated as a translation step at the end. For many Madurai businesses, the language your customers think in is the difference between an ad that is read and one that is scrolled past.
9. "How do you test, and what happens when something doesn't work?"
A good answer describes testing as normal: several versions of an ad or offer, a set budget and time for each, and a clear rule for what gets stopped and what gets more money.
Be careful if every idea is presented as a sure thing. In marketing, some things don't work. A good agency finds out cheaply and quickly.
10. "Can you show me relevant work, and can I speak to a client?"
A good answer shows recent work for a business like yours and lets you speak to someone they have worked with.
Be fair if the agency is new. A young agency won't have a long client list, so judge it by the quality of its plan for you, the questions it asks, and whether it will start with a small, defined project before a long contract.
11. "What is included in the price, and what costs extra?"
A good answer is in writing: the monthly fee, GST, number of posts or creatives, revisions, photo and video shoots, ad spend, software, and anything billed separately.
Be careful if the price is low and the list of what it includes is short. Compare quotes by what you get, not by the headline number.
12. "How do we end the contract if it isn't working?"
A good answer covers a reasonable notice period, what is handed back (logins, files, creative, reports), and how the handover works.
Be careful if there is a long lock-in with no way out, or if the handover is unclear.
What no agency can honestly promise
Some promises sound reassuring and should make you more careful, not less:
- A guaranteed #1 position on Google. Google's own guidance is direct: "No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google." (Google Search Central)
- A guaranteed number of leads or sales. Results depend on your product, price, location, timing and how quickly your team answers enquiries, not on the agency alone.
- Results "within days" from SEO. Ads can produce data within days. Search rankings are built over months.
What a good agency can promise is a clear plan, honest reporting, quick learning, and work you can see.
Things to check that are specific to Madurai
- Tamil-first content for customers who search, read and decide in Tamil.
- The festival calendar. Pongal, Chithirai, Aadi, Deepavali and wedding seasons move demand for many local businesses. Ask how the plan prepares for them weeks in advance.
- WhatsApp as a sales channel. Many enquiries here arrive on WhatsApp, not by form or email. Ask how those enquiries will be answered, tracked and followed up. (We wrote a WhatsApp follow-up plan for local businesses on exactly this.)
- Google Maps and local search. "Near me" searches decide footfall. Ask how the agency will look after your Google Business Profile and your reviews.
A simple way to compare agencies
After each meeting, score the agency from 1 to 5 on each line. Weight the totals by importance.
| What to judge | Weight | Agency A | Agency B |
|---|---|---|---|
| Understood my business before suggesting anything | ×3 | ||
| Clear plan for the first 90 days | ×3 | ||
| Reports customers and cost per customer, not just reach | ×3 | ||
| Accounts and data stay in my name | ×2 | ||
| Clear on who does the work | ×2 | ||
| Content in Tamil as well as English | ×2 | ||
| Transparent pricing and ad spend | ×2 | ||
| Fair exit terms | ×1 |
The highest score is not always the cheapest quote. It is the agency you trust to tell you the truth when something isn't working.

Questions people ask
How much does a marketing agency in Madurai cost?
It depends on the scope. Agencies usually charge a monthly retainer for ongoing work, a fixed price for a project such as a website, or occasionally a share of ad spend. Ad spend itself is a separate cost that goes to Meta or Google. Compare quotes by what is included, not by the headline fee.
Should I hire a local agency or one from a bigger city?
Choose the one that understands your customers. A local team can meet you in person, knows the festival calendar and writes naturally in Tamil, which matters for many Madurai businesses. Location matters less than the quality of the questions they ask and the plan they give you.
How long does marketing take to show results?
Paid ads produce data within days and a clearer picture within a few weeks of testing. Search engine optimisation is slower and is measured in months, not weeks. Ask the agency what you should expect to see at 30, 60 and 90 days.
Is it safe to give an agency access to my Facebook page and ad account?
Yes, if it is done as partner access. Keep ownership of the Business Manager, page and ad account yourself and add the agency as a partner with the permissions it needs. You can remove that access at any time without losing anything.
What should be in a marketing agency contract?
The scope of work, deliverables and timelines, the fee and what it includes, how ad spend is paid, who owns the accounts and creative, how results are reported, the notice period, and what the agency hands back when the contract ends.
